We're wired to keep things the same.
We're wired for familiarity, because for most of human existence, seeking familiarity was the best survival strategy. It's only in the last few hundred years, at most, that trying to improve your life has become a better survival strategy—and human brains just do not evolve that quickly.
So we're confused by people. We're like, Well-being's available to you, and you're not taking it? That doesn't make any sense. Well, yes—it doesn't make sense, because their brain's not wired to look for that.
When you say, Hey, you keep repeating the same shitty patterns, okay—that makes sense if the brain is wired to keep things the same.
You'll do this yourself. We all do this.
Notice the patterns: you suddenly lose motivation to stick with something just as you're starting to make progress.
You have the courage to do what matters, to step up—but it's inconsistent. It only comes in bursts. When you're starting to get low, it doesn’t stay. It doesn’t gain momentum. It doesn’t compound.
Notice the evidence: the fact that you're reading this right now means you're doing at least well enough in life that you can sit down and read or watch a video.
And yet you remember your life as a series of failures, of never being good enough—which makes no sense, because if you really weren’t good enough, you wouldn’t be in a place where you could read a newsletter or watch a video.
So, you have the power to create a better life.
But you have to understand: at least part of your brain is actively trying to prevent you from doing that—because a better life simply means change, and you are wired to keep things the same.
