Overcoming 'I'm Not Good Enough' Mindset: Tips for People Pleasers

A common frame that I often see working with people is the "I'm not good enough" story—the belief that you're a loser, a failure, that you never do well, or that you're just not good enough.

For some people, this frame is permanent. They carry it with them wherever they go.

They're always focused on what they're not doing well, what they've failed at, what others are doing better than them, how unlucky they are, and so on.

You may have this frame if you're constantly focused on the painful points in your life, especially those you believe you've caused due to your own ineptness, lack of skill, or lack of attractiveness, or whatever.

The stories you tell yourself usually justify this "unlucky" vibe, like, "I'm disadvantaged", "I don’t have what other people have", "I was born wrong" or "I was somehow destroyed in childhood."

You tell yourself you're less than others.

I shouldn't have to explain why this frame is unhelpful, but I do want to highlight how inaccurate it is.

I won’t go into too much detail here, but the reality is, if you see yourself this way, you're skewing the information to make it true.

You have to ignore all of your achievements.

You have to ignore the fact that you're well, healthy, and smart enough to be watching this video.

If you're there, how could you be "not good enough"? The evidence just doesn’t line up.

To hold onto this frame, you have to ignore everything you’ve done well—which is the majority of things—and focus only on a few points that were painful for you, even though you’ve survived them.

Anyone who has the "not good enough" frame is lying to themselves.
