Live True to Yourself: Defining and Acting on Your Core Values

You may have beliefs about politics that resemble political memes.

Maybe you have some beliefs about religious virtues, too.

Where you've got a belief that you're clinging to, but it's actually too contradictory—you can't even live by it.

So, you need to ditch that and replace it, maybe with two separate beliefs, and then act according to both of those beliefs.

However the key is—and this is all covered in my core values course as well—you've got to figure out what your values are—even if this starts just as guess, align your behaviour with them and see how that makes you feel.

If you think you value courage, then every day go and do something that scares you.

If you think you value responsibility, then look at some area of your life that's not going well and try to fix it.

If you think you value compassion, then stop interrupting people when they're complaining and just listen to them.

Align the behaviour, and that will either feel right or wrong, especially after extended experimentation.
