It takes a lot of practice, but I guarantee you: there is a use for every type of feeling.
There are activities that suit certain emotions better than others, and if you can train yourself to see these, then eventually there's no such thing as a bad emotion.
They're all useful. You just have to work with what you've got.
There's no point trying to do something aggressive and courageous when you're feeling sad, right?
You need to do something that’s sadness-related—create some art, for example, or write in your journal.
Those are good sadness activities.
It doesn't necessarily have to be the commonly accepted way of dealing with it.
Some people can cry when they're sad.
Others, for whatever reason, can't.
I find it difficult to cry.
I can do it, but hardly ever.
So, I can’t just bring tears out and cry the sadness away. Even that would be trying to get rid of the emotion, rather than using it.
But, sadness is a good time for me to journal—get creative.
Same with anger.
You might have been raised in a culture where anger means you fight or punch a hole in the wall—and they might think that's a good idea.
However, you don’t have to deal with anger like that, nor should you.
You can use that energy to write a letter to your boss who’s been pissing you off.
Or drop and do some push-ups.
Or do some pull-ups.
You can always use the energy in a way that’s maybe unique to you.
