The one thing a manipulator doesn’t want to work with is a person who backs themselves because that’s the hardest person to manipulate.
Why? Because the key to manipulation is self-doubt.
In order to move you, I need you to be at least a little unsure about your own ideas, so I can insert my own ideas.
If you're very sure about your own ideas, what can I do with that? You're unstoppable.
Remember, the point is not to win the battle—it’s just to be very difficult to manipulate.
You want to be the person who always makes a scene, so it’s just not worth it.
Make it high effort, a hassle, to mess with you.
There should always be uncomfortable resistance—emails to HR, accusations openly revealed, long confrontations and discussions, other people brought in, reports filed, screenshots shared and saved, and most importantly, everything out in the open—nowhere to hide.
Manipulation dies in the sunlight.
If you’re like this, if you always bring things into the light in front of everyone, nobody will want to manipulate you.
It’s just way too uncomfortable for them and way too likely that they’ll get caught.
Be shameless about how sensitive and easily manipulated you are.
Yeah, maybe you’re overdoing it.
Maybe they weren’t trying to do anything.
Maybe you are seeing something that’s not there.
It doesn’t matter, because if you call it out, that will help resolve it.
You’ll become bolder, more assertive, and less sensitive, and other people will learn that you have these sensitivities. Those who care about you will work with you on your sensitivities.
