Exploring Sexual Shame: Uncover Your Sexual Education

I've got a couple of exercises that I want you to do to explore your sexual shame.

First, I want you to get a piece of paper and write down everything that you can remember about where you learned about sex:

  • From whom did you learn it from, and what kind of right and wrong messaging did you get?
  • What religious influences were there?
  • What kind of education did you get about sex in school both from your teachers and from your friends?
  • What did your parents tell you, if anything, about it?
  • What about other family members, such as older brothers and sisters?
  • What did you get from movies and from stories that you heard?
  • What did you get from porn?

I’d like you to reflect on any aspects I might have overlooked, particularly in terms of where you learned about sex, the lessons you took from it, and the sense of right and wrong you developed.
