Breaking The Silence: The Truth About Sexual Education

In most places around the world, sexual education is very grim.

If you go to your average public school almost anywhere in the world, and you try to learn about sex, what you get is a cutaway medical image of what someone looks like on the inside and that's about it.

In some countries, if you're lucky, you get told to use a condom.

Nobody tells you how a sexual connection forms.

Nobody tells you how to express yourself sexually.

Nobody tells you what consent is.

You're left to guess it all.

What often happens, when you have to figure it all out by yourself, is that when you do decide to act, you get it wrong: the first time you ask someone out or the first time you try to initiate sex— you don't know what you're doing, and no one has given you any guidance.

When you get it wrong, this solidifies the belief that there's something wrong with you.
