Authenticity Is Louder Than Approval-Seeking

You’ve gotta be able to speak in your own voice.

In order to make that work for you, there are some weaknesses you need to overcome — or at least work around.

The first is just the shame about who you are.

It doesn’t matter that you have all these strengths if you’re ashamed of them —

if you’re apologetic,

if you hide them,

if, when you talk about them, you’re defensive or huffy.

If you own it all, then it’ll work for you.

However, if you’re apologetic about it, then other people will start to think there’s something wrong with you too.

You’ve gotta be able to speak in your own voice.

Yeah, I know that sounds kind of cheesy — but it’s true.

You’ve got to stop trying to be cool,
back yourself,
say what you want to say,
the way you want to say it —
and let other people figure out whether they like it or not.
